Important Announcement: Freezer storage of the new Aqua-SPAWN™ Trial bags

Following the successful launch of our 200ml Aqua-SPAWN™ tubs – believed to be the World’s first synthetic fish (egg roe) hook bait, we decided to introduce the promotional Trial bags shortly afterwards to help with our marketing efforts.

The Trial bags are available as affordable “pre-activated” 8mm (Pineapple flavoured) baits and are ready to use on the hook, hair, casting and pole fishing.

Aqua-SPAWN™ has a 10+ year shelf life supplied in a dehydrated (inactivated) form and can be kept in the refrigerator once activated with water/flavouring. Aqua-SPAWN™ can also be frozen or used in sub-zero fishing temperatures without freezing (forming ice crystal coating) with the addition of an appropriate amount of water and glycerine additive according to our chart: http://www.lagunafp.eu/articles/Glycerine_additive_for-bait-freeze-storage-and-sub-zero-fishing-temperatures.html

Generally most commercially available flavourings and liquid attractors contain a glycerine (glycerol) base solvent and when mixed with an appropriate amount of water would be ideally suitable as an antifreeze solution when activating the product. However; our Trial Bags are not currently suitable for freezing due to an inadequate amount of glycerine and today; 11th July 2011 the following information was sent out to inform our retailers of such limitations.

FREEZER STORAGE OF TRIAL BAGS (Pineapple flavoured Aqua-SPAWN)
Dear Retailer,
As a precautionary measure and for the avoidance of doubt; Please inform ALL your customers that;
THE TRIAL BAGS OF AQUA-SPAWN ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR FREEZER STORAGE – WITHOUT THE ADDITION OF GLYCERINE.
Our research suggests that although”activated” Aqua-SPAWN can be kept in the refrigerator, freezing of our trial bags are NOT readily suitable for freezing.
The Trial Bag label does not specifically state or suggest they can be frozen, but it could potentially mislead customers into believing they can be as may be suggested elsewhere on the internet etc.
The reason they are not suitable for freezing is that the current liquid flavour formula we use to manufacture them, do not contain sufficient glycerine as solvent to disrupt hydrogen bonding below a specific temperature.
What this means is that the bait will be difficult to compress (frozen at or near freezing point) and will start to freeze at or below = -0.6 and although will compress after defrosting to room temperature; they will not readily bounce back i.e. they significantly lose elasticity.
Future Trial Bags produced may typically include a higher proportion of glycerine formulation (at a higher production cost) if it is found customers are still confused or are unaware of the significance of using glycerine additive as a natural anti-freeze.

As a precautionary measure and for the avoidance of doubt; Please inform your customers that;
THE TRIAL BAGS OF AQUA-SPAWN ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR FREEZER STORAGE – WITHOUT THE ADDITION OF GLYCERINE.
The current Trial Bags can be kept in the refrigerator but NOT stored at or used below their freezing point = -0.6
Our tubs specifically state on the insert label; “Avoid freezing without glycerine additive” and this information should be heeded according to our online chart and applicable to all the tubs contents as well as any trial bags supplied.
Kind regards
Chris
